With the continuous advancement of science and technology, smart home products are becoming increasingly popular. Among them, the video intercom doorbell has become a key component for enhancing home security. Today, we’d like to introduce a PCB product specifically designed for video doorbells. This product plays a vital role in protecting residents by allowing users to visually and audibly identify visitors, significantly improving safety.
Product Structure and Specifications

The core of this device is a 2-layer main board with a wiring harness that includes 8 connectors. The board is built with the following specifications:
-
- Board Type: 2-layer FR4 PCB
- Board Thickness: 2.0mm
- Copper Thickness: 2oz
- Surface Finish: Lead-free HASL
- Solder Mask / Silkscreen: Green solder mask with white silkscreen
- Material Specification: FR4, TG130, IPC Class 2
- Trace Width / Spacing: Standard design rules
To facilitate mass production, we panelize the boards with 2 pieces per panel, adding a 10mm edge and 4 positioning mark holes. After assembly, the edge is trimmed off. The production process follows conventional procedures, and we ensure no X-out boards in the panels, meeting general industry standards.
Connector and Cable Assembly Challenges
The board includes 8 DIP connectors, all of which are original-brand components that are difficult to source through regular markets. To address this, we worked directly with a connector manufacturer to customize these parts. Given the MOQ requirements, we agreed with the customer to order 3,000 pieces to match their 3,000-unit project.
Each board also interfaces with 8 female connectors attached to cables. Due to the special order process for the connectors (4–6 weeks lead time), once received, we assemble the male connectors onto the PCB. We then send the corresponding female connectors and cables to a supplier for cable unit assembly. This process takes about 3 days for 3,000 sets, after which the completed cables are returned and assembled onto the PCBs. The LCD screen is mounted with 4 screws during final assembly.
Main Functionalities of the Video Intercom Doorbell
- Extension Management: Visitors can call a specific indoor unit through the main entrance host.
- Inter-household Communication: Residents can communicate with each other via the community center and door host.
- Convenient Calling: The door unit can call the management center, which can remotely open the door.
- Internal Communication System: Secondary management units at each entrance support a complete internal communication network.
- Emergency Alarm System: In emergencies, the management center can broadcast to all households for alerts.
Outlook for the Industry
Looking ahead, video intercom doorbells will continue to evolve alongside advancements in high-tech development and user-centered design. The integration of wireless transmission, smart connectivity, and IoT technology will bring more intelligent, seamless solutions into households. As this technology becomes more accessible, industry experts believe it will drive the smart home market with the same momentum as the smartphone revolution.
This video doorbell PCBA project demonstrates how conventional manufacturing techniques, efficient supply chain coordination, and high-performance components can be combined to deliver reliable and scalable smart home solutions.
